Don’t know what to make for breakfast? Try making your own bagels, for me it a very AHHHHH moment. It very simple, you just need a couple of ingredients (you probably already have them around your kitchen) and you won’t believe the yummy smell in your house and the amazing result… But you need to be patient with them, I would suggest making them on a Saturday and enjoying them for lunch.
INGREDIENTS FOR 8-10 BAGELS:
4 cups APF
1 1/4 cup lukewarm water
2/3 cup fresh strawberries chopped into small pieces
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp dry yeast
1 1/2 tsp pink salt
HOW TO MAKE THE BAGELS:
In a large bowl (or your mixing bowl) combine the water, sugar, salt, yeast and 1/2 cup flour. Give the mixture a good whisk and let it rest until it foams (about 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the temperature in your kitchen). Add the rest of the flour and knead until you incorporate it completely. Add the strawberries and knead until you have a soft and elastic dough (either by hand or using a dough hook of a stand mixer/ bread machine). Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let rise until double in volume (form 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours). Divide the dough into 8 pieces using a sharp knife. Shape the each piece into a ball and then press into the center of each ball until you have a hole and then stretch the dough to form the bagel shape. Let the bagels rest for another 30 minutes on a well floured surface.
Preheat the oven at 425 F.
Fill a large pot halfway with water and bring the water to a boil. Gently place the bagels into the boiling water (about 2 at a time). Boil the bagels for about 40 seconds on each side (they float to the top when ready).
Cover a baking sheet with pachment paper and bake the bagels for 20-22 minutes.
I honestly think these were the best bagels I ever had! I eat two last night straight out of the oven with butter and a glass of prosseco! YUMM!

They look amazing, do you think they’re work with raspberries? I’m highly allergic to strawberries! Would be so grateful if you have a moment if you could check out my blog, I post a baking blog every Thursday! https://beccadoeslifethings.wordpress.com/ 🙂
I am sure you can use raspberries instead of strawberries. You gave me a great idea for my second batch… Or you can use blueberries,
if you’re not allergic. I checked out your blog, you’re off to a very good start! Good luck! 🙂
Haha you’re welcome! Nope blueberries sound delicious, might even try raspberry and blueberry 🙂 That’s so nice of you to say, thank you so much! 🙂
These bagels look SO soft and yummy–wonderful recipe! I used to love egg bagels the best–I gradually enjoyed blueberry and sesame seed bagels after that!
